Woman unwittingly wore engagement ring for a year before boyfriend proposed

While some marriage proposals are spur-of-the-moment affairs, others take a little bit more planning.

An Australian man named Terry opted for the latter category when he bought an engagement ring for his girlfriend Anna almost 18 months before finally popping the question.

However, rather than holding onto the ring, he hid it inside a wooden necklace he'd designed himself, giving it to Anna as a present.

The ring, hidden inside the necklace 

Anna wore the necklace for more than a year before the big day came when, during a holiday in Scotland, Terry asked her to be his wife.

In a video uploaded to YouTube he tells the story: "Since we first met, we had always talked about the many places we would love to travel, and ‘Smoo Cave’ in Scotland had been one on our bucket list.

"So we travelled to Durness, where the cave is. But before we actually went down to the cave, I asked if I could have the necklace to take some photos of it among the rocks, which gave me a quick chance to break the seal with a knife. 

"We wanted a nice photo so I set up my camera and tripod on a timer, and rushed in.

"I took the necklace from my pocket, kneeled, broke it open and revealed that something was hidden inside the entire time."

He later told ABC News: "I had always loved the idea of giving someone a gift where they didn't know its true value until years later."

And Anna's response? She immediately said yes, before berating Terry saying: "I could have lost it, you f***ing idiot!"
